Founding of JG Sports Talk as told by amiri tulloch
The question I get asked the most is how I came up with the idea to start my own sports talk show. My answer always is unclear, because I did not have a Eureka moment. Instead, being a Giants and Devils fan, my dad introduced me to WFAN-NY one day. I began listening to Boomer and Carton in the morning and Steve Somers at night (and I still am a huge fan of both). I listened/listen so much that I know the weekday schedule of both WFAN and competitor ESPNNY Radio. The more I listened, the more I thought to myself: "Hey, I can do this too."
I had a laptop, I purchased a $20 headset microphone, and created an account on uStream.tv. I started broadcasting on a school desk (don't ask me why) in my room, and began with a few 10-15 minute long shows. At that time, I did it for enjoyment. But, I knew that I would be seriously interested in sports talk the moment I interviewed my first guest, former NBA champion John Celestand (attained as a friend to my aunt!). I then began with Devils and Giants podcasts, and never looked back.
